Boulder Natural Meats Recalls Chicken Distributed In Colorado

WASHINGTON – Boulder Natural Meats, a Denver, Colo., establishment, is recalling approximately 363 pounds of Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts due to misbranding, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.  The product was formulated with wheat, which is declared on the product label, so all allergens are properly identified.  However, the front label states the product is gluten free.  Products with a gluten free claim may not contain wheat.

The following product is subject to recall:

  •     1 to 1.5-lbs. vacuum sealed packages of  “Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts brushed with Teriyaki Seasoning”

The product was produced May 13 and 14, 2014, and has a freeze by date of 05.24.14 or 05.25.14.  The product bears the establishment number “P18852” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The product was sold to retail establishments in Colorado.

The problem was discovered by a retailer, which notified the company. After an investigation, it was determined that the front label was mislabeled “gluten free,” because an older label was mistakenly used.

FSIS and the company have received no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of the product. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to ensure that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall should contact Heather Crane at (303) 301-5293.
