Patrick Cudahy Supports Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation At Sixth Annual 'Race For The Bacon'

CUDAHY, Wis. – The sixth annual Patrick Cudahy® "Race for the Bacon" 5K Run and Walk returned to Sheridan Park in Cudahy on Thursday, with participants helping to fund research to find a cure for Type 1 diabetes. A portion of the race proceeds are going to the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

The "Race for the Bacon" has become an annual community tradition in the birthplace of Wisconsin's iconic bacon brand, dishing out summertime fun, entertainment, and excitement for everyone who attended. The first 125 finishers received a package of Patrick Cudahy fully cooked bacon. Participants with the best costumes also walked away with prizes, as well as the top three male and female finishers.

Just as in years past, race participants gave it their all. Local high school student Aidan Sodemann of South Milwaukee, Wis. came in first with a time of 16:53. Per WIAA rules, Sodemann is unable to accept any race awards, but his winning time will stand. He was followed by Matt Fritschel of Grafton, Wis. and Gary Lovrine of Richfield, Wis., who took home second and third prize, respectively. Jessica Parker of Milwaukee, Wis. crossed the line with a time of 18:23, giving her honors as the fastest female at the event. Amy Schlotthauer of Menomonee Falls, Wis. and Abbi Orcholski of Wauwatosa, Wis. crossed the finish line as the second- and third-place females racers, respectively.

The bacon excitement continued from the finish line to the Bacon Bash. During the post-event party, Patrick Cudahy served a variety of delicious bacon treats alongside beverages and live music.

"The Patrick Cudahy 'Race for the Bacon' is one of our favorite summer traditions," said Bud Matthews, Patrick Cudahy senior vice president. "We love seeing the community rally around this event to make it a success and to support such a wonderful cause. I want to thank all of the participants who helped raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation."

Patrick Cudahy worked with ROC Productions to plan, produce, and promote the event. ROC Productions is also responsible for the PNC Milwaukee Marathon in October.
