Bedford – The Pennsylvania Beef Council (PBC) Board welcomed three new directors during their annual meeting on Wednesday, December 13, in Bedford. Newly elected to the council’s board are Mike Kunsman, veal producer from Clearfield County, Dustin Heeter, beef producer from Indiana County, and George McQuiston, Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association representative and beef producer from Butler County.
The officer team will be led by Bobbi Dunn, Hereford producer from Crawford County. Dunn will serve as Chairman and succeeds outgoing Chairman, Darwin Nissley a feedlot producer from Lancaster County who led the Board from 2016-2017. Adams county beef producer, Chris Jeffcoat, is the organization’s new Vice Chairperson. Washington County beef producer and sale barn owner David Kearns, Jr. will serve as Treasurer and Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s Association representative and Bedford County beef producer, Adam Kauf, complete the slate of officers as Secretary.
The annual meeting provided program updates by each staff member and was highlighted by a presentation from Josh White, Executive Director of Producer Education, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. White addressed the group of over 30 producers and industry leaders with an update on the 2016 National Beef Quality Audit.
“It was a real honor to be able to address the beef industry leaders in Pennsylvania. The National Beef Quality Audit (NBQA) is only conducted once every five years and sharing the learnings is a priority of the producer education team at National Cattlemen’s Beef Association. The Audit learnings can be used to improve Beef Quality Assurance at the state level. Pennsylvania has been a leader in BQA and continues to do a great job extending that education to the producer level” remarked White.
