Possibly Contaminated Beef Triggers Quiet NY Price Chopper Recall

Eighty-one Price Chopper customers received calls from their grocery store due to possible contamination with food they purchased – an alert that the store wasn't required to do.

The Schenectady-based chain contacted people over the phone for a voluntary recall on two beef products sold at an Upper Glen Street store in Queensbury between 1 and 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 11. Because all 81 customers had AdvantEdge discount cards, no legal notice or media alert was sent, company executive Mona Golub said Saturday.

Phone calls and messages to customers indicated the recall pertained to 80 percent ground chuck and 85 percent ground round beef with a sell-by date of Jan. 11. Customers could return the item for a full refund.

The recall was due to the possibility a plastic utensil was ground into the beef, the prompt said.
