Christopher Ranch Expands Eco-Friendly Packaging

Gilroy, CA (April 2010) – Just in time for Earth Day, Christopher Ranch LLC has expanded its line of environmentally friendly pouches. A 1 lb. bag for Whole Peeled Garlic is now available along with the existing 6 oz. bag to give retail customers a choice of 2 different sizes. The eco-friendly, recyclable bags are also available for Foodservice in 3 lb. and 5 lb. sizes.

“The success of the 6 oz. bag tells us that we’re on the right track,” said Jeff Stokes, Christopher Ranch Vice President of Sales. “The 1 lb. bag completes our retail line availability for the stores who prefer to carry a larger size pack.”

Similar to the other packs, the 1 lb. bag is manufactured to use 80% less material than our previous containers, and will press flat for easy disposal. The reduced packaging conserves refrigerator space and cools the garlic efficiently. The re-sealable closure preserves the garlic’s freshness, and the tear-off hood assures food safety. Furthermore, the bag protects the product as well as the thicker, more rigid current jar.

The new eco-friendly bag line is projected to save over 500,000 pounds of plastic each year. The compact size of the raw material reduces carbon emissions by over 100,000 lbs annually and helps save on transportation costs due to weight reduction. Both the bag and box are 100% recyclable.

The familiar Christopher Ranch logo guarantees that the prepped and peeled garlic inside is premium quality and sustainably grown.
