Frieda’s Founder Shares Books For Cooks

Frieda Caplan, founder of Friedas Specialty Produce, and Russ Parsons, Los Angeles Times Food Editor, signed books and shared cooking tips and foodie stories at the Peninsula Center Library in Palos Verdes, California on October 24. Caplan shared the inside scoop on how she helped introduce items like Spaghetti Squash and Sunchokes to supermarket produce departments, while Parsons provided advice and instruction on how to prepare in-season produce such as fennel, squash varieties and fingerling potatoes. Autographed copies of Parsons How to Pick a Peach and How to Read a French Fry, were available, as well as The Purple Kiwi Cookbook by Friedas daughter, Karen Caplan (president of Friedas Inc.). Proceeds benefited the Peninsula Friends of the Library, a nonprofit organization that supports the Palos Verdes Library District.
