Kiwi Berries Attract Consumers With New Labels

Your customers want them, and Hurst’s Berry Farm has them again this fall — delicious Kiwi Berries! This unique and exciting specialty item is always in demand as a “no fuzz, no fuss” snack that everyone loves. About the size of a grape, Kiwi Berries are sweet, bite-sized packages of kiwi flavor and nutrients. With no need to peel, simply pop them in your mouth and enjoy as a quick and nutritious snack, or use them in fruit salads, smoothies or recipes — just as you would with other berries or full-size kiwi fruit. This amazing little fruit is just one of the many fun specialty berry varieties supplied by Hurst’s Berry Farm, with the product line including raspberries, blackberries, currants, gooseberries and blueberries.

It’s not often that a fruit product brings with it the kind of excitement that Hurst’s Kiwi Berries can generate in a store. Customers are often intrigued simply by the sight of them, as they can’t help but wonder what these cute little berries are and how they are used in the kitchen. In-store demonstrations have been shown to dramatically increase sales of the overall produce department, and involve simply cutting a few Kiwi Berries in half so customers can see the beautiful “miniature kiwi” center. One taste, and these wonderful little berries practically sell themselves! Add in the fact that Hurst’s Kiwi Berries are not only delicious and convenient, but also rich in antioxidants, a great source of vitamin C, Vitamin E, potassium and fiber and are naturally low in fat, cholesterol and sodium, and its no wonder they’re one of the most popular items for the fall.

Offered in traditional 6 oz. clamshells and 4.4 oz. clamshells, Hurst’s kiwi berries are ready to eat as soon as the pack is opened. Hurst’s “preconditions” their Kiwi Berries, harvesting and shipping at just the right time so the berries are at optimum condition for both the retailer and consumer. Kiwi Berries should be stored and displayed in dry refrigeration, having a shelf life of between 7 and 14 days when they reach the store.

Unfortunately, Hurst’s Kiwi Berries are in season for a very short time, from roughly late September to early November. And while Hurst’s optimizes their harvest to provide the best possible supply during this window of availability, retailers are encouraged to order early so they don’t miss the opportunity to feature this wonderful specialty item.

Hurst’s Berry Farm is also excited to introduce their new line of labels and boxes this season, depicting bright, clean graphics that are sure to get consumers’ attention. Look for the new labels in stores everywhere this fall.

“The response to our new labels and boxes has been phenomenal this season,” says Doug Perkins, Director of Sales for Hurst’s Berry Farm. “We feel the new high impact look really represents our superior product, and sets a new standard for our brand and marketing materials as we move forward in 2010.”
