Markon Welcomes New Inspector To Food Safety Team

SALINAS, Calif. – Markon Cooperative welcomes Ismael Rios as the newest inspector to its Quality Assurance Team. Ismael is not new to the industry and is well-versed in the company’s 5-Star Food Safety® Program where he was promoted from Markon’s food safety coordinator. His hard work and background as an inspector for another local grower prompted Markon to promote Rios to the inspection team. He and the other inspectors have made the annual transition from Salinas to the winter growing region of Yuma, Arizona where they walk the fields daily and monitor product to help ensure that growers uphold Markon’s strict quality and safety standards. He will also participate in creating Markon’s Live from the Fields videos that provide real-time information about all things produce.

“This is a critical time for harvesting,” explains Quality Assurance Director John Galvez. “Having another pair of Boots in the Field will certainly help us maintain the strong relationships we’ve developed with our growers and cover more ground across the region.”

A Salinas, California native that speaks both English and Spanish, Rios is perfectly suited to the ever-evolving role of Markon inspector. He will play a big part in upholding the standards that are important to our members and their customers. To get a taste of what Rios and other Markon inspectors do daily, check out A Day in the Life of a Markon Inspector video.
