Markon's Andrew Engles Promoted To Assistant Purchasing Director

SALINAS, Calif. – With a focus on growing and developing leadership skills and team members, Markon Cooperative Inc. is promoting Andrew Engles to assistant purchasing director for his demonstrated knowledge and expertise in product purchasing, ability to build strategic relationships and strong work ethic.

In his new role, Engles is charged with overseeing the purchasing of all the fruits, vegetables, herbs, and lettuce and green salads the company offers to its foodservice members: Ben E. Keith Foods, Gordon Food Service, Gordon Food Service Canada, Maines Paper & Food Service, Nicholas & Company, Reinhart Foodservice, and Shamrock Foods Company.

Engles joined Markon in June 2006 after graduating from St. Mary’s College and most recently served as a product manager for Markon, where he oversaw the purchasing of Northwest commodities such as apples, onions, pears and potatoes. In this role, he was responsible for growing produce sales of select commodities by establishing markets, providing commodity updates, servicing customers and suppliers, and fostering and building relationships.

“At Markon, we strive to be indispensable to our partners,” said Mark Shaw, Markon’s vice president of operations. “Andrew helps us live this value through his dedication to doing a top notch job day in and day out. He has the critical skillset needed to lead and grow our purchasing department and meet our foodservice customers’ diverse and always-changing purchasing needs.”

In 2015, Engles was honored as a member of Produce Business magazine’s 40 Under Forty, which recognizes the produce industry's top young leaders for their professional accomplishments, demonstrated leadership, and industry/community contributions. He was also chosen to take part in the Produce Management Association’s Emerging Leadership Program where high-potential leaders from all segments of the global produce and floral supply chain learn how to embrace increasing levels of responsibility and handle challenges and opportunities inherent in future leadership roles within the industry.
