CASTROVILLE, Calif. – Ocean Mist Farms was awarded the Joe Nucci Award for Product Innovation by Produce Business magazine at the New York Produce Show and Conference in New York City earlier today. In its second year, the award recognizes the best innovation that will lead to expanded consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Ocean Mist Farms was recognized for its “Season & Steam” microwavable Brussels sprouts. The Season & Steam bag features Brussels sprouts that are cleaned, trimmed and ready to cook. The innovative packaging gives users a turn-key process for preparing Brussels sprouts with the option to open the bag, pre-season the contents, reseal the package and steam by microwave all within the same bag.
The ability to pre-season the Brussels sprouts (prior to cooking) is an exclusive convenience attribute to the produce department. Ocean Mist Farms also won a Produce Marketing Association Impact Award for Excellence in Produce Packaging for the product’s first of its kind “Season & Steam” microwavable Brussels sprouts bag at the PMA Fresh Summit convention and exposition in October.
