NEW BEDFORD, MA – Sid Wainer & Son is embarking on the next phase of its growth.

The most prominent importer and distributor of specialty produce in the country held a ceremonial ground breaking on November 5, 2015 to celebrate a 60,000 SF refrigerated produce storage and distribution facility that is being built on the company’s 21-acre site in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

“This project will help us to serve our customers with greater efficiency,” said Henry Wainer, owner and president. “The additional warehouse space will enable us to make more products available to our customers and expand our capacity for future growth throughout the company. We use our extensive product knowledge and experience in the culinary field to source, grow and bring to the table the finest specialty foods in the world.”

Sid Wainer & Son is a fourth generation, HACCP certified, specialty produce and foods company at the forefront of the food industry for over 100 years. The company supplies over 30,000 of the finest restaurants, hotels, gourmet shops, retailers and caterers both domestically and internationally. Through partnerships with farms, sustainability and local food traditions are fostered, and seeds, techniques and technology are shared. By purchasing only from farms dedicated to quality and consistency, the best of the harvest is guaranteed. The company’s goal is to always meet and exceed customer expectations.

The warehouse is expected to be operational in June 2016.

The new facility will feature an approximately 50,000 SF solar panel array to produce enough energy to save over 400,000 kilowatt hours per year; LED light fixtures for warehouse areas that will not only save energy but will enhance productivity; an increased thickness on all insulated exterior walls over 40,000 SF of wall area to add energy efficiency values to the facility for many years to come; and a water recycling system that will reduce the daily water consumption amount while maintaining the water quality required for quality assurance.

Other significant project components include: state-of-the-art dock equipment with integrated features to ensure the safety of employees; over 8,000 SF of improved employee amenities such as new locker and break rooms; improved access for customers to the Gourmet Outlet Store; new, secured parking for approximately 180 cars with LED lighting and landscaping; and a new ADA accessible entrance ramp for employees and visitors and new ADA accessible elevator.

Sid Wainer & Son® Announces Appointment of Allie Wainer as Executive Vice President

Sid Wainer & Son® is excited to announce the appointment of Allie Wainer to the newly created role of Executive Vice President. Allie, 4th generation family member, has been involved with the business since she could walk. Her entire life family dinners revolved around tasting and discussing the new and interesting foods her father, Dr. Henry B. Wainer, current owner and president, would source from around the world.

A graduate of the School of Hospitality at Boston University, Allie worked in various areas within the food and hospitality industry. This included jobs and internships with major hotels, caterers, event planners, local restaurants, and specialty food shops. “I wanted to experiment with different aspects of the business to get a sense of the big picture,” says Allie.

Allie formally joined the Sid Wainer & Son® team in 2012 as the Director of Customer Relations. In that role she was responsible for ensuring all departments within the company were connected and the communication between them and their customers is strong. She assumed the role of President of South Coast Farms, a Sid Wainer & Son® company in 2014. In her new role, Allie Wainer will be shaping the future direction of the 101 year old company her great grandfather founded.

“I naturally inherited a passion for food and our family business” says Allie. “In a 24 hour, 7 days a week distribution business, there is never a dull moment. I love the challenge and we have an incredible team. Seeing our 101 year old company move into the future progressively is so exciting.”
