'Taking Back Our Brand' Report Shows Why Activist Groups Are Unhappy With Safe Fruits & Veggies Initiative

Last week, Friends of the Earth (FOE) released "Spinning Food: How Food Industry Front Groups and Covert Communications Are Shaping the Story of Food." As shared through an Alliance for Food and Farming (AFF) blog post, FOE included the Safe Fruits and Veggies initiative in its report and made the usual unsubstantiated "front group" allegations about the AFF. FOE also accused the AFF as engaging in "covert communications" simply because we distribute peer-reviewed, science based food safety information to journalists as well as consumers. Interestingly, FOE even paid the AFF a backhanded compliment by acknowledging our success despite a "relatively small budget."
By including AFF in its report, FOE really underscores the impact of the Safe Fruits and Veggies initiative efforts to provide balanced information about the safety of all produce. To learn why FOE and others are not happy with AFF's results, read the executive summary of "Taking Back Our Brand: A Report on the Effectiveness of the Safe Fruits and Veggies Campaign," which was released earlier this year. Among the notable findings, no group (including FOE) has ever questioned or challenged any of the information found at safefruitsandveggies.com which illustrates the quality of the science presented.
