Tostitos and Avocados From Mexico Team Up to Bring “Cinco Central” Promotion to Retailers Nationwide

PLANO, Texas — Tortilla chips and guac go together like millennials and brunch. With Cinco de Mayo taking place on a Sunday this year, the path has been paved for the ultimate mashup of food-centric celebrations: Cinco de Mayo brunch. Tostitos®, the tortilla chip for all manner of gatherings, and Avocados From Mexico, which are delicious on everything, always in season, and always worth it, saw the perfect opportunity to celebrate the holiday with a new twist. The two are teaming up to deliver on the ultimate combination of chips, dips and avocados for Cinco de Mayo celebrations, with some brunch favorites.

On the Friday before the holiday, roving carts, inspired by the custom-made fun of the tableside guac experience, will hit the streets of New York City to surprise and delight locals with brunch-ified takes on typical Cinco de Mayo favorites. New Yorkers near Herald Square, Madison Square, Columbus Circle and Washington Square Park are invited to join Tostitos and Avocados From Mexico from 11:30 – 2:30 p.m. for a pre-Cinco treat of SalsaGuac and Avocado TOSTitos. Visitors will be encouraged to get their Cinco started early by having a bite and sharing their experience using #NoGuacNoCinco.

“Chips and guacamole are often the centerpiece of Cinco de Mayo festivities,” said Sheldon Boyea, senior director of marketing, Frito-Lay North America. “Through the partnership with Avocados From Mexico, we are able to bring the Cinco de Mayo brunch to chip and guac loving fans throughout the country. Our Cinco de Mayo brunch carts will start the festivities a few days early by surprising New Yorkers with an original Tostitos recipe, SalsaGuac, which is the perfect addition to their upcoming Cinco celebrations.”

“Partnering with Tostitos for the rapidly growing Cinco de Mayo holiday was a perfect fit for us, because you can’t have guacamole without chips,” said Alvaro Luque, President of Avocados From Mexico. “As we expect to import more than 141 million pounds of fresh avocados leading into Cinco de Mayo, we’re seeing a 13 percent increase in volume compared to this time last year. Our robust Cinco Central in-store destination inspires shoppers to celebrate and revel in tasty recipes, including our favorite, the SalsaGuac!”

For party planners outside of New York City, Tostitos and Avocados From Mexico are unveiling thousands of Cinco Central pop-up displays at grocery stores across the country. These one-stop-shops are fully stocked with Tostitos chips and dips and Avocados From Mexico, all the ingredients needed for a delicious Cinco de Mayo.

Cinco-themed recipes include Tostitos SalsaGuac, Fiesta Nachos, Brunch Chilaquiles, Cinco Layer Dip, and Pineapple Guacamole – and all are available on Tostitos.com. For more recipes, tips and tricks involving avocados head to AvocadosFromMexico.com.
