Urapa Produce Announces Strategic Acquisition of Bland Distribution Services in Donna, TX

Pharr, Texas: Urapa Produce, a grower-packer-shipper of Mexican tropicals, proudly announces its acquisition of Bland Distribution Services (BDS). This strategic move marks a significant milestone for Urapa Produce as it expands its capabilities and strengthens its position in the market.

With this acquisition, Urapa Produce is poised to enhance its logistical and distribution capabilities significantly. BDS, a 110,000-square-foot cold storage facility in Donna, Texas, will play a pivotal role in Urapa Produce’s operations. The facility will serve as a central hub for storing Urapa’s products while also providing in-and-out warehousing services for other importers in South Texas.

Urapa’s CEO, Tony Godinez, a pioneer in cold storage, was one of the first to open cold storage operations in Texas. Godinez, who started his career as a U.S. Customs Broker, brings 30 years of experience in cold storage facility management. Godinez will spearhead the integration of BDS into the company’s operations. His wealth of knowledge and industry insights will ensure a seamless transition and immediate enhancements to BDS’s services. “We are thrilled to welcome BDS into the Urapa Produce family,” comments Tony. “This acquisition aligns perfectly with our vision of providing exceptional value to our customers and partners. We are confident that our expertise, combined with the capabilities of BDS, will raise industry standards for cold storage and warehousing services.”

Troy Bland, CEO of Bland Farms, congratulates Tony and Urapa on the purchase of BDS. “We hope that Urapa will continue to expand the business. We plan to continue bringing our Mexican onions into the warehouse for packing and transshipment and look forward to working with the Urapa team. I want to personally thank all of our former employees at BDS for their work and dedication, and we wish them the very best in the future.”

The acquisition of BDS underscores Urapa Produce’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth in the fresh produce industry. This strategic move will allow Urapa to better control the operational side and ensure exceptional service when trucks arrive at the facility.

As the company continues to expand its footprint and capabilities, clients and partners can expect even greater reliability and efficiency in the supply chain. As a third-party logistics manager, Godinez’s commitment extends not only to his customers but also to other companies in the produce industry.
