Five Meijer Superstores To Open In Northeast Ohio By 2020

LORAIN, Ohio — Meijer plans a major push into Northeast Ohio with five new superstores expected to open in the next two to three years, including the latest acquisition — a store at the site of the former Super K on Leavitt Road in Lorain.

It would be the second Meijer store in Lorain County. Another one is planned for Avon, along with stores in Bainbridge, Mentor and Stow, bringing the number of Meijer stores in Ohio to 42.

"Lorain looks like a perfect location as part of our push into Northeast Ohio and the Cleveland area," said Meijer spokesman Frank Guglielmi. "Now, the closest Meijer stores to Cleveland are in Sandusky and Mansfield. We would like to change that with the sites we have either purchased or put under contract."
