Harris Teeter Expands North Carolina Distribution Center

Grocery chain Harris Teeter is adding 50,000 square feet to its perishable warehouse in Greensboro, marking the third expansion for the company’s operations on Chimney Rock Road.

Harris Teeter will expand the warehouse to 225,000 square feet to help the Matthews-based company “better accommodate and more efficiently serve” roughly 50 percent of its 198 stores, said the company’s communication specialist Catherine Reuhl in an e-mail response to questions. She said the latest expansion will not result in new jobs.

Reuhl said the project is slated for completion in September. John S. Clark Co. LLC is the project’s general contractor. Company officials declined to disclose total investment of the project. Public records show that a building permit was issued for $3.4 million.

The warehouse is part of Harris Teeter’s Greensboro distribution facility, which supplies more than 3,600 different products to stores across the Triad and the Outer Banks and as far north as Delaware.
