Mike Stigers Elected New Secretary Of WAFC

LAKEWOOD, CA November 16, 2009 The Western Association of Food Chains (WAFC) announced today the election of Mike Stigers, president of PW Markets, to the offi ce of secretary of the WAFC, effective immediately. Stigers, who began his food industry career as a courtesy clerk with Safeway over 30 years ago, has been active on the WAFC board of directors for over eight years and has been instrumental in his role as chairman of the bylaws committee.

Mikes commitment to the WAFC and our education mission is exemplifi ed by his leadership on the board and his personal investment in both his own development and that of his industry associates, said Pete Van Helden, WAFC president and executive vice president of SUPERVALU INC. He is a valuable addition to the leadership team of the WAFC and we welcome his talent and energy.

Mike recently earned a Bachelor of Science in Applied Economics from the University of San Francisco, and is currently teaching the capstone retailing course in the Retail Management Certifi cate Program curriculum at Evergreen Valley College in San Jose.

Established in 1921, the Western Association of Food Chains is a non-profit organization comprised of Retailers and Wholesalers in the 14 Western states representing over 7,500 supermarkets and 200 billion dollars in annual sales. The WAFCs primary mission is education, which is made possible with the support of industry suppliers and staging an Annual Convention each spring.
