The same union whose members walked off the job at Raley's this week reached a tentative agreement with Safeway early Thursday.

The deal still has to be ratified by United Food and Commercial Workers members.

UFCW officials said the deal with Safeway achieved their goal of "protecting affordable health care and improving contract conditions for our members."

There are two Safeway stores in Redding and one in Anderson.

"This new agreement provides our employees with among the best wages, benefits and working conditions in the region, while ensuring the company can compete successfully in the future," Karl Schroeder, president of Safeway's Northern California Division, said in a statement.
