Sprouts Farmers Market To Have 100 Stores By End Of 2013

Phoenix-based Sprouts Farmers Market opened its first store in Chandler in 2002 with 43 employees. Today, the privately held company is getting ready to open its 50th store and has more in queue for 2010 — possibly including taking space left vacant by another local grocer, Bashas’ Supermarkets Inc.

Sprouts employs about 3,600 in Arizona, Texas, California and Colorado, and that number is expected to grow through the end of the year. The company has grown not only in number of stores, but also by net revenue, which has increased each year since 2006 despite the economic slowdown.

Projections for 2010 are that the company’s revenue will be between $620 million and $670 million, compared with $445 million last year.
