Sprouts Looking At Smaller Cities In New Mexico

Sprouts Farmers Market is eyeing expansion into New Mexico’s smaller cities, including Farmington and Las Cruces, according to Seth Brown, vice president of store development for the fast-growing Arizona-based retailer. Sprouts recently acquired the Sunflower Farmers Markets chain.

“We have not made plans for Albuquerque. We still have to figure out Sunflower’s positioning there, but there could be room in New Mexico for our Plan B stores (smaller stores) in places like Las Cruces and Farmington. A city like Farmington is too small for a Whole Foods, but we think we can draw from a wide area there,” Brown told about 350 real estate executives at the monthly NAIOP luncheon at the Albuquerque Marriott Monday.

Sprouts acquired Sunflower in March and by doing so, picked up six locations in New Mexico, including four Duke City stores and two in Santa Fe that will be converted to Sprouts this year.
