Supermarkets Raise Nearly $70K For Susan G. Komen For The Cure

LUBBOCK, Texas — Guests of United Supermarkets, Market Street and Amigos United stores have made possible a donation by the company of almost $70,000 to Susan G. Komen for the Cure through their purchases during October.

During the companys month-long Pinktober promotion, guests purchased specially marked products where a portion of the sales proceeds were earmarked for breast cancer research and awareness.

Store departments participating in the effort were bakery, general merchandise, grocery, produce and meat/seafood.

Total proceeds from the effort were $69,439.

Monies will be distributed to Komens four affiliate offices in the United Supermarkets trade area, with the Lubbock office receiving $32,392; Amarillo, $17,140; North Texas (Plano), $10,955; and Wichita Falls, $8,952.

We are extremely grateful to the thousands of guests who made this donation possible through their purchase of products in our stores, said Matt Bumstead, co-president of United Supermarkets, LLC. Their generosity has allowed us to make a significant contribution to the fight against breast cancer.
