Wegmans Releases New Version Of Their App

ROCHESTER, NY – Ready for an app that revs up grocery shopping, makes sure you don’t forget anything and estimates what you’ll pay at checkout? Then try out the newest version of the Wegmans app. From Wegmans Food Markets, it can be installed free of charge with a visit to the device’s app store.
“Ever since we released the first version of our app a couple of years ago, we’ve been listening to customer feedback and making improvements based on what we hear,” said Jason Wehle, director of internet marketing for Wegmans. “One of the most common requests we received was for compatibility with Android devices. We’re excited that this new version delivers on that request, and it will soon work with Kindle Fire and Barnes & Noble Nook too.
Those who have already been using our iPhone app told us they wished their experience could be more personalized. With that in mind, we included past purchases to this new version of the app. We’ve added other features too, from more nutrition information to estimating what it will cost to buy the items on your list.”
Here’s a rundown on several time-saving features of the updated app.
A quicker list
Who knows better than you what you like to buy and which brands and sizes you prefer? Now, with just a few taps, you can jump start your shopping list using past purchases. All you need to do is sign into the app and touch the “Products” icon on the home screen to get started. Purchases are linked to your Shoppers Club account and will be shown if Shoppers Club is scanned at checkout.
There are additional ways to build your list too. Say you saw a recipe in Wegmans Menu magazine, but can’t recall the ingredients. The app displays Wegmans recipes with ingredients, instructions, and nutrition information for each. Right under the recipe’s name is a green button that says, “Add ingredients to my list” – tap it and your list will have everything you need for the recipe.
The Wegmans app can even use your device’s camera to scan product bar codes right from the pantry or refrigerator and quickly add them to the list.
You can create and edit multiple shopping lists for your account from both Wegmans.com and the app. For example, you may have your own “party” list of items you buy when guests are coming, such as party trays, snacks, ice, beverages or cleanup items. “Some of our customers shop for others – a relative or neighbor, for example – and it may be helpful to keep that person’s list separate from other lists,” said Wehle. “You can also email your list to someone else who’s doing the shopping, and even add helpful notes. We think customers will see right away how much time this can save.”
The fastest shopping route through your store
Backtracking around the store can slow you down. The Wegmans app organizes shopping lists by aisle according to your store’s layout to make shopping a breeze. If you visit a different Wegmans, just touch the “more” icon on the home screen, then choose “My Account.” From there, you can switch to another store location.
Know what you’ll spend
The new app estimates the total cost of the items on the shopping list. “Customers have asked us for this feature because it offers more control over spending and planning. It helps keep the food budget on target,” Wehle says.
Extras
There are lots of other things the app can help you do: check store locations and hours, refill a prescription, watch cooking videos, read the latest posts from Wegmans’ Fresh Stories blog, browse recipes, rate and review products and recipes, and check nutrition information and Wellness Keys for Wegmans brand products and recipes.
Your device at the checkout counter
Using your Wegmans Shoppers Club card at checkout has advantages. You’ll get a lower price on items being discounted for cardholders, Wegmans will attempt to notify you if a product you purchased is recalled, and you’ll have a record of your purchases on the app and past receipts on Wegmans.com. If you’re using the app, there’s one last feature to know about. Cashiers can just point a handheld scanner at your phone or tablet to capture your Shoppers Club information right from a bar code at the bottom of the shopping list. All the advantages, without the need to carry the card in your wallet or the key tag on your keychain!
Tweet your tips
From January 20-29, Wegmans will share favorite tips for using the app on Twitter. Customers are invited to tweet @Wegmans and share ways the app makes shopping easier along with the hash tag #wegapp. One daily tweet will be chosen at random to receive a $100 Wegmans gift card.
