Influx Of Crabs From Other States, Countries Impacts Maryland Watermen

Bill Scerbo was about 19 years old when he bought a boat, a few crab pots and began harvesting Maryland crabs.

He’d head off to Washington, D.C., selling crabs right out of his truck to retail customers and restaurants, whoever was willing to buy them. He also sold crabs right from his south Anne Arundel County driveway.

“People who sell crabs are like drug dealers,” said Scerbo, president of the Anne Arundel Watermen’s Association. “People have to have their crabs, and people will do whatever they can to get them.”
