NFI Salmon Council Named 2019 PR News’ Platinum PR Award Winner

McLEAN, Va. – The National Fisheries Institute’s Salmon Council hooked a momentous win at this year’s 2019 Platinum PR Awards presentation in New York City Tuesday, September 17.

The council’s 2018 Pinterest campaign was pronounced a winner in the Best Use of Social Media category, which included entries from Firestone, Aflac, IBM, Novartis Pharmaceuticals, and RIDGID. The award recognizes campaigns that result in authentic connections and allow users to seamlessly interact with a product or company.

The awards, presented by the industry-leading trade publication PR News, recognized outstanding achievements in communications and honored programs executed during the previous year.  PR News serves the communications, public relations and marketing community within corporations, agencies, nonprofits, and governmental organizations.

“We are honored and proud to be named the winner of a 2019 Platinum PR Award,” said Brandon F. Phillips, the Senior Director of Communications and Advocacy for NFI.  “This award validates The NFI Salmon Council’s unique social media strategies and our Salmon Council members’ dedication to being one united, advocating voice for the overall increase of both wild caught and farmed salmon consumption in the U.S.”

Launched in 2018, the council’s Pinterest campaign was aimed at dramatically elevating the organization’s existing presence on the platform.  The council’s tactics focused on search optimization, group board access, shared content, and promoted pins.  By the end of 2018, its Pinterest page had gained nearly a million new followers.  Additionally, the page by year-end had generated more than 2.3 million impressions.

“Almost overnight, The Salmon Council went from being another organization on Pinterest to becoming a powerful Pinfluencer. The Council has built a space that will allow for continued sharing and promotion of all things salmon,” explained Phillips. “Congratulations to all the Salmon Council members on this achievement.”

The Pinterest page is the product of a partnership between The NFI Salmon Council and Butin Integrated Communications, a Southeastern-based PR firm specializing in the food and beverage industries.
