Seafood Industry Research Fund (SIRF) Establishes Ken Conrad Memorial Fund

McLean, VA –  Ken Conrad started in the restaurant business at the age of 10 washing dishes in his father’s restaurant. Ken was President and CEO of Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant in Greensboro, N.C. and continued after retirement serving as Chairman of the Board.

Ken served as Chairman of the National Fisheries Institute in 2010 and also served on the Board of Directors of the National Restaurant Association, where he was Vice Chairman and Treasurer before ascending to the Chairman’s position in 2014. Many members of NFI and NRA consider Ken to be one of their most important mentors during their career. He was one executive that made time for people in his ever demanding schedule.

“Ken’s legacy is one of success and family, he will be greatly missed,” said NFI President John Connelly.

Involved in many civic and industry organizations, Ken co-founded the Greensboro Urban Ministries Thanksgiving meal and worked tirelessly every Thanksgiving day for 30 years feeding the needy. Ken was an ethical and kind man whose character was evident in the meals he served in and outside his restaurants.

“To honor our former NFI Chairman and friend, the Seafood Industry Research Fund (SIRF) has launched a memorial fund in Ken’s name,” said SIRF Chairman Russ Mentzer. “We invite Ken’s friends in the seafood and restaurant industries to join us in recognizing his contributions and leadership.”
