South’s Oil Slick Could Be Disastrous For Seafood

Opponents of offshore drilling have long warned about the soiling of picturesque white-sand beaches from hypothetical oil spills.

But George Crozier's eyes are on the marshes.

"This ongoing emotional concern for the beaches is somewhat misplaced. It's a worry, but it's the least of our worries," said Crozier, executive director of the Dauphin Island Sea Lab.

"Compared to oyster reefs, grass beds and marshes, beaches are a piece of cake. If it dumps on the beaches, let BP pay for the cleanup and PR to say our beaches are clean and open."
