For the fourth year in a row, the U.S. Senate has designated July American Grown Flowers Month, recognizing the economic and cultural impact of America’s cut flower and greens farmers. It’s an amazing form of recognition right at the height of flower season!

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy Urges USDA to Continue to Support U.S. Floral Industry, American-Grown Flowers

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) called on the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) on Friday to continue supporting the American floral and horticulture industry. In a letter to U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, Murphy emphasized the importance of supporting the America’s floricultural industry.

Proposed Legislation Requires American Grown Flowers, Greens In U.S. Government Facilities

The legislation, referred to as the, “American Grown Act,” includes bill sponsor support from all six co-chairs of the Congressional Cut Flower Caucus: Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA), Rep. Salud Carbjal (D-CA), Rep. Ducan Hunter (R-CA), Rep. Jimmy Panetta (D-CA), Rep. Chellie Pingree (D-ME) and Rep. Ted Yoho (R-FL).

Designer Kelly Shore Unveils ‘A Year of American Grown Bouquets’

At the start of 2018, floral designer Kelly Shore challenged herself to spend the year designing with the highest percentage of American Grown Flowers possible. It was a personal effort on her part to see exactly what was achievable with flowers sourced exclusively from U.S. flower farms.
