FDA Signs Partnership with Ecuador to Enhance Safety of Shrimp Imports

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) signed a Regulatory Partnership Arrangement (RPA) with Ecuador’s seafood regulatory authority to strengthen food safety in shrimp intended for the U.S. market. Shrimp is the most consumed seafood in the United States, the vast majority of which is imported. Ecuador is one of the leading exporters of aquacultured shrimp to the United States.  

Pallone Announces Introduction of Bipartisan Bill to Support New Jersey’s Aquaculture and Seafood Industries

Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) announced the introduction of a bipartisan bill today to support aquaculture and seafood industries. The Supporting Equity for Aquaculture and Seafood (SEAS) Act reforms federal agricultural policy to ensure these industries receive equal treatment within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Maine Passes Law to Set Limits on New Fish Farms

Governor Janet Mills signed a bill into law that establishes limits on stocking density, making it harder for developers to build monster fish farms in Maine’s waters.  

State of Maine Suspends Some of Nordic’s Permits

The state issued a decision June 21 to suspend Nordic Aquafarms’ Site Location of Development Law and Natural Resources Protection Act permit and Air Emissions License for its proposed land-based fish farm to be located off of Route 1 and next to the Little River. The suspension does not apply to the company’s Maine Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit.
