Pandemic Impacts Certified Angus Beef fiscal year, but Sales Momentum is Strong

For the first time in 16 years, the Certified Angus Beef ® brand (CAB®) reported lower annual pounds sold for its fiscal year that ended September 30. Still, 2020 was one of strong performance and the fifth consecutive year with sales of more than a billion pounds across 51 countries. Those global sales of 1.175 billion pounds were down 6%, or 75 million pounds.

Analysts believe with the current supply chain interruptions and change of buying habits, U.S. consumers will buy less meat this summer, specifically beef.

UK Beef and Pork Sales Dropped £ 185M Last Year

According to the research by Nielson, in 2019, beef sales declined by 4 percent and pork sales declined by 6.4 percent. Sales of vegan and veggie meat products, however, saw the biggest growth rate, rising 18 percent to £ 405 million.

Beef Drives Higher Total Store Sales

Beef reigns. It brings in more dollars than any other item at retail (2.1% of total), while nearly 6.3% of baskets include beef.2 This makes beef a formidable revenue generator in its own right. Further, the average basket with beef is more than twice that of the typical ring ($85.70 vs. $41.33, respectively).
