Texas Oyster Harvesting Closings Completely Break Down Oyster Supply Chain

Permanent and temporary closures of oyster harvesting areas by the Texas Department of Parks and Wildlife (TDPW) have brought protests by oyster fishermen and contributing to the shortage of Gulf oysters, as well as high prices.  The department said the move was due to a variety of environmental concerns.

The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is hosting a public meeting to discuss the document, “Oyster Management and Recovery Strategic Plan.” The meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2021, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. in the auditorium of the Bolton Building, located at 1141 Bayview Ave. in Biloxi.
