North Sea Cod at Critically Low Levels, Study Warns

North Sea cod could soon be coming off the menu for environmentally conscious diners as a decision is expected by the end of this month on whether fish populations are too low to support sustainable fishing.

100% of Greenland Halibut Caught in the EU Now MSC Certified

Following a 13-month assessment, Doggerbank Seefischerei GmbH halibut fishery, off the west coast of Greenland has been certified to Marine Stewardship Council’s (MSC) sustainable fishing standards. The assessment was carried out by a four-member evaluation team headed by Control Union Pesca Ltd. All the fisheries catching Greenland halibut in the EU are now MSC-certified and are fishing sustainably.

U.S. Atlantic Skate Achieves MSC Certification

The U.S. Atlantic Winter Skate (Raja ocellata) fishery in the Northwest Atlantic has been certified sustainable against the MSC fisheries standard. The assessment, executed by independent conformity assessment body MRAG Americas, Inc. was requested by the Sustainable Fisheries Association whose members include: Cape Ann Seafood Exchange, Inc.; Marder Trawling, Inc.; and Seatrade International. The assessment was completed as part of a scope extension under the U.S. Atlantic spiny dogfish fishery certificate.
