Olymel Continues to Consolidate Its Activities and Announces the Closure of Its Blainville and Laval Plants

This decision, which is part of a reorganization undertaken in 2021 and is aimed at optimizing operations, will unfortunately result in the loss of 170 jobs in total.

Olymel and Cintech agroalimentaire’s respective management announced today an agreement to share spaces, human resources and materials at Cintech’s new facilities in St-Hyacinthe. Thanks to this agreement, Olymel, Canada’s leading pork and poultry processor, will develop a chemistry lab in Cintech agroalimentaire’s new building in St-Hyacinthe. The announcement of this agreement also enables Cintech agroalimentaire to take a major step forward as an innovation driver.

Olymel Announces the Definitive Closure of its St-Hyacinthe Plant

Olymel’s management regrets to announce the closure of its pork processing plant located on St-Jacques street in St-Hyacinthe. The 107 employees still actively working in this facility’s melting, storage and packaging operations have been notified about this decision and have received a 12-week notice of termination, in accordance with the provisions of Quebec’s Act respecting labour standards.

Olymel Announces Management Staff Reorganization

Olymel’s management announces its decision to eliminate 177 management positions. Of this number, 120 positions became open in recent months, whereas 57 current employees are affected by this decision. The 57 affected employees were notified yesterday and received layoff notices. The decision was made after carefully considering the effectiveness and redundancy of the administrative support functions within the organization.

Olymel Opens a Central Microbiology Laboratory

After a long development process, Olymel has taken a new step in improving quality control by setting up its own central microbiology laboratory. The existing infrastructure of its plant in Ange-Gardien, Montérégie, in which the company invested, will house this new entity’s activities. The Ange-Gardien facilities were automated and its equipment upgraded to PCR technology, which will make analysis methods even more efficient and increase information traceability. This laboratory is licenced by the Public Health Agency of Canada.
