On a 7-1 vote, the South Dakota Senate Commerce and Energy Committee sent SB 145, ‘An Act to provide protection and workplace safety for meat and poultry processing workers’ to the 41st day of the session, essentially killing the legislation.

Yanick Gervais Appointed President and CEO of Olymel

Ghislain Gervais, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Olymel, is proud to announce the appointment of Yanick Gervais as President and CEO of Olymel L.P. Yanick Gervais was chosen to succeed to Réjean Nadeau, who passed away from cancer on October 14. Given that Mr. Nadeau was unable to perform his duties, Yanick Gervais had already been appointed as interim CEO on October 7. Until now, he had held the position of Senior Vice President, Operations at Olymel and was responsible for managing over 30 pork and poultry processing plants, mostly in Quebec but also in Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick. He was also overseeing the company’s logistics and engineering departments.

Tyson Foods will invest $48 million as part of its commitment to accelerate the long-term growth of its poultry business and continued success of its Pine Bluff, Arkansas, poultry plant, company officials said today. Nearly 70 jobs will be created by the project, which is expected to be complete by late 2021.
