Wheat Foods Council Brings the Value Chain Together from Farmer to Consumer During Winter Board Meeting

 Sharing the wonder and inner workings of the wheat industry from the farm to the miller to the baker to the end consumer is one of the goals of the Wheat Foods Council, which recently held its annual board meeting in San Antonio, Texas, in February 2024. Building those connections along the wheat value chain is a major role of the organization, according to Kansas wheat farmer Ron Suppes, who is chairing the Wheat Foods Council this year.

Long-time industry leader Ron Suppes has traveled the world promoting Kansas wheat for more than two decades. This month, he embarked on a similar, but distinctly different challenge — advocating for the role of wheat foods in a healthy diet to personal trainers, chefs and more as the newly seated chairman of the Wheat Foods Council (WFC).

Happy Golden Anniversary! Wheat Foods Council Celebrates 50 Years

In the early 1970s, wheat foods came under attack for containing a high portion of carbohydrates, which many consumers believed made foods fattening. In May 1972, the wheat commissions from Kansas, Texas, Colorado, South Dakota and Nebraska met to coordinate a response from wheat farmers. The result was the establishment of the Wheat Foods Council (WFC), which celebrated its 50th-anniversary in June. 

Wheat Foods Council Meets in Napa for the Future of Food Forum

Chefs, food marketers, millers and other wheat industry representatives came together in Napa, California, on April 11 to 14 for the Wheat Foods Council’s Chef Workshop and first Future of Food Forum. This seminar was insightful and provided a chance to advocate wheat foods to key people in the food industry.
