New Quito, Ecuador International Airport Open For Business

Quito – The new international airport of Quito, Mariscal Sucre, was inaugurated Feb. 19th. Operations began Feb 20th at 9:00 AM.

At 7:00 PM Feb. 19th, the final flight from the current airport departed and the site will be declared officially closed.

With the object of moving the airport out of the city center, the new site was created some 20 kilometers east of the city, in the parish of Tababela.

In 1960, Quito inaugurated its Mariscal Sucre airport. With urban development of these decades, the city absorbed the air terminal in its center, which raised the risk of accidents, given the topography of the capital, making air operations difficult.
