Newport News Flower Grower's Nontraditional Approach Meeting Demand For Local

NEWPORT NEWS — Nestled in the Denbigh area of Newport News is Lisa Ziegler's passion—a cut-flower farm.

"I read a book in 1998 called 'The Flower Farmer,' by Lynn Byczynski, and I knew I had found my dream," said Ziegler.

Ziegler's been running her cut-flower farm, which sits on three acres of land, along with the help of some of her family, ever since.

"The flower farm accounts for over an acre of the land," Ziegler said. "We produce between 10-15,000 stems of flowers a week in season.

Ziegler works 10 months out of the year, with May-October being her harvest months.
