Heinen's To Open New Store In Chicago Suburb Of Barrington

CLEVELAND, Ohio — One of Cleveland's oldest family-owned supermarket chains has its sights set on expanding into Chicago, the City of Broad Shoulders and big appetites.

Jeff and Tom Heinen are announcing plans today to open their first Heinen's Fine Foods store next summer in the Village of Barrington, an affluent community 40 miles northwest of Chicago.

The Barrington store will be the 82-year-old company's first venture outside of Northeast Ohio and the beginning of what the Heinen brothers hope will be a multi-store expansion into Greater Chicagoland.

The brothers, who own 17 stores in Northeast Ohio, will be investing more than $10 million to convert a former Staples into one of their signature supermarkets. The store will eventually employ about 80 people.
