Tops Opens Prototype For New Stores

Last year at this time, seeing a new Tops Friendly Market in a rehabilitated Depot Plaza on East Ridge Road in Irondequoit required an active imagination. A lot had been said, but little had been done.

On May 14th, Tops opened to the public in a reimagined Depot Plaza, which for years has been in decline. Though the plaza work is not finished, the sleek look of the place is in marked contrast to the old Depot. And it is in even more marked contrast to Irondequoit's stalled Medley Centre.

The opening is one of several. Sonic Drive-in plans a standalone restaurant near the mall. It will be the chain's first restaurant in the area. Besides the store, Tops will open a gas station on the property in June. More new retail is coming to the outdoor mall. The idea is to restore Depot Plaza's place as a retail hub in the town.
