Canada's National Bakery Showcase 2016 Starts On Sunday May 1

Toronto, ON. –  Business is on the rise at the much-anticipated Bakery Showcase 2016, which will feature top names in the industry starting this Sunday, May 1 and running until Tuesday May 3, at the International Centre Hall 5, 6900 Airport Rd., Toronto.

About 5,000 industry professionals are expected to attend the Bakery Showcase, which will feature new education programmes, enhanced B2B business opportunities and a new Knowledge Centre to support Canada’s baking industry’s efforts in delivering innovative and nutritious products to our consumers.

The Bakery Showcase, that takes place every two years, is Canada’s largest and only industry trade show and conference with some 100,000 square-feet of exhibits featuring baking ingredients, equipment, services, technology and finished baked goods.

"The Bakery Showcase keeps innovating and attracting more people every year," says Paul Hetherington, President and CEO, Baking Association of Canada (BAC). "There are many new and exciting speakers this year and there will be plenty for people to see and experience."

Hetherington says the BAC is Canada’s largest baking industry trade association that represents the country’s $8.6 billion commercial, retail and in-store bakeries. Its members represents more than 80% of the nation’s production capacity within the industry producing a wide range of products including breads and rolls, cakes, pastries, cookies and other sweet goods with semi-finished & frozen products.

On the agenda on Sunday May 1, from 11 am to 12 am, is the amazing "Road to Paris" story by Alan Dumonceaux, Captain of Bake Team Canada, as he relives his team's triumphs in getting to the Baking World Cup.

On Monday May 2, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am, Harold Lloyd, who is well-known for his consumer studies, will talk about productivity and 24-ways to build sales in an engaging presentation called "Holy Donuts Batman."

From 10:45 am to 12 noon, Lloyd will lead a Baker Panel discussion on where the industry is today and where it is heading.

On Tuesday May 3, from 9 am to 10 am, Dr. Joe Schwarcz, Director of McGill University's "Office of Science and Society," will provide the latest in nutritional advice; and from 10 am to 10:45 am Globe and Mail columnist Leslie Beck, who is a best-selling author and registered dietician, will talk about crafting a nutritional message and getting it heard.

Finally, our State of the Industry panel will explore how the baking industry in Canada and the U.S. are responding to both consumers and governments regarding today’s food and nutrition challenges.
