Dollar Tree Inc. is testing an expanded grocery store concept called Dollar
Tree Market, opening today in Chesapeake.
The new store takes the former space of the Circuit City electronics store at
4107 Portsmouth Blvd., where it shares a plaza with Best Buy, Shoe Carnival and
Ross Dress For Less. With about 23,000 square feet, Dollar Tree Market is about
twice the size of a typical Dollar Tree store.
Inside, it carries a wider array of products akin to a traditional but small
supermarket, with fresh foods ranging from steaks to fruit. It also has an
expanded housewares section and baked goods made on premises, including
custom-ordered cakes, said Chelle Davis, spokeswoman for Dollar Tree, based in
Chesapeake.
