Tax incentives expected to be approved today may help fuel growth of two West Michigan food industry companies.
Gordon Food Service and Hearthside Food Solutions plan to invest a combined $79 million in building improvements in Wyoming, Kentwood and Grand Rapids to create 429 new jobs bolstered by employment tax credits from the Michigan Economic Growth Authority.
Hearthside could receive up to $1.2 million in tax credits. GFS would be eligible for up $2.3 million in tax credits, according to the amended agreement that replaces the $4.3 million in MEGA and Brownfield incentives approved last year. Since then, the company's project changed from building on a redeveloped site to a greenfield location so the company is no longer eligible for brownfield redevelopment credits.
