How This Woman's Homemade Pop-Tarts Moved From Her Brooklyn Stoop To Starbucks Stores Nationwide

It started with a weekly bake sale on her Brooklyn stoop. Now Meghan Ritchie’s gone national.

Five years ago, a then 30-year-old Ritchie was selling homemade scones, tarts and doughnuts as a hobby. Before long, she was delivering baked goods to local cafés by bicycle before work. When her boyfriend, Paul Jones, stepped in to help with deliveries, her clientele expanded to Manhattan.

It’s been four years since Ritchie introduced “Megpies,” her fresh and buttery Pop-Tart–like treats, at Brooklyn’s Smorgasburg food market. Today she’s got a whole lot more orders coming in: In addition to New York City establishments, her desserts are now sold at Starbucks SBUX, +1.07% locations across the country for about $4 each.
