Merger Closes Minardi's Bakery's Paterson Operation After 84 Years

Minardi Baking Co., a third-generation Italian bakery that had been in Paterson for 84 years, this week closed its doors, merged with a larger bakery and moved to Denville.

Family members said rising operation costs, including "skyrocketing" property taxes, increased health care premiums and the price of gasoline for its fleet of trucks, forced them to merge and relocate.

"It was a very difficult decision," said John Minardi, a third-generation baker who said the family discussed it at length.

The new company will be known as Anthony and Sons and Minardi Baking Co. and will be located at 20 Luger Road in Denville. The company is still taking orders for bread at its old phone number: 973-742-1107.
