NY Consumer Alert: Undeclared Eggs In “Halal Plain” & “Halal Fruit Cake”

New York State Agriculture Commissioner Darrel J. Aubertine today alerted consumers to undeclared eggs in “Halal Plain Cake” and “Halal Fruit Cake”, packaged and distributed by Narala Bakery Inc. of 744 Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn, New York. People who have severe sensitivity to eggs may run the risk of serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume this product.

The recalled “Halal Plain Cake” and “Halal Fruit Cake” are packaged in random weight clear plastic wrapped packages. No UPC code or manufactures code are available. The product was sold to various locations throughout the five boroughs of New York City.

Routine sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets’ food safety inspectors and subsequent analysis of the product by the New York State Food Laboratory revealed the product contained eggs, which are not declared on the label.

No illnesses have been reported to date to this Department in connection with this product. Consumers who have purchased “Halal Plain Cake” or the “Halal Fruit Cake” should discard the product. Consumers with questions may contact Narala Bakery Inc. at (718) 287-8494.
