Sonocoat PAN Offers Uniform Micron Thickness Ultrasonic Coatings With Innovative Cost Savings For Depanning In Commercial Baking Appliciations

Sono-Tek Corporation of Milton, NY USA, announces the development and sale of new industrial ultrasonic coating systems for depanning and other baked goods manufacturing applications, replacing conventional spraying technologies.

With an estimated ROI of less than 6 months, the SonoCoat PAN system has demonstrated savings of 45% of the depanning oil currently used in baking processes at customer’s plants.

Based on high-frequency sound waves, Sono-Tek’s unique patented nozzle systems create atomized spray patterns capable of unlimited widths and median drop sizes as low as 18 microns (based on atomizing water), with many advantages over traditional spraying systems. One important advantage is superior transfer efficiency. There is less bounce back of liquid from the target, combined with a controllable, uniform coating application of nano to micron thickness layers. Other advantages include tight drop distribution enhancing coating uniformity and minimal maintenance requirements, offering significant economic value to the baked goods industry.

Other food coating applications for which Sono-Tek has developed ultrasonic coating equipment include spraying antimicrobial solutions and moisture barriers onto food products and thin film packaging for product safety and shelf life extension, as well as ultrasonic spray coating of eggwash and glazes for added shine and decorative purposes. Using up to 80% less coating material Sono-Tek is able to achieve uniform functional coatings that are often much thinner than conventional coatings while still achieving desired results of product safety and enhanced flavoring.

Sono-Tek’s patent pending ultrasonic spray coating systems for the food industry are based on technology applied from the company’s 30+ years of experience and expertise in ultrasonic spraying, including coating medical devices (implantable stents), spraying flux onto printed circuit board assemblies, and more recently in the field of advanced energy – coating fuel cell membranes and solar panels.

These new ultrasonic food coating systems are available to food manufacturers for evaluating the compatibility of their liquid coating needs with ultrasonic atomization technology. These needs can be tested in a continuous, pilot plant setting at Sono-Tek’s laboratory as well as in a full scale industrial capacity at the client’s manufacturing plant. Sono-Tek Corporation provides food manufacturers with state-of-the-art tools for new product and process development not available elsewhere with material savings much greater than conventional manufacturing processes.
