Syracuse's Byrne Dairy Plans To Build Yogurt Plant

Syracuse-based Byrne Dairy is the latest dairy company to invest in the yogurt boom. Byrne announced last Wednesday that it is seeking an option on a 127-acre business park in Cortland to build a yogurt plant with a tourism aspect to it.

Commonwealth Dairy To Expand Yogurt Operation In Brattleboro

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin and Commonwealth Dairy in Brattleboro announced today that the company will invest $12 million in new facilities and equipment at its Brattleboro plant, which began operations in March of 2011.  When the project is completed, the company expects to add as many as 34 new jobs to its existing workforce of 110.  As of January, it was producing more than 100,000 cases of packaged yogurt per week, including its popular strained Greek yogurt.

Alliance Of Western Milk Producers To Disband

Effective today, the Alliance of Western Milk Producers, a coalition of California dairy processing cooperatives representing 60 percent of California’s milk, will cease to function. The Alliance members, California Dairies, Inc. (CDI) and Dairy Farmers of America Western Area (DFA), have determined that a formal organization is no longer necessary to accomplish a concerted effort of California cooperatives.

Ontario Egg Farmers Serve Up World Egg Month Thank You To Hamilton School

Egg Farmers of Ontario (EFO) wrapped up World Egg Month celebrations with a $30,000 donation to Breakfast for Learning at Westwood Elementary School, alongside Ontario Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, the Honourable Ted McMeekin last Friday.  The cheque presentation was part of an "eggs-citing" morning of "egg-ducation" for two grade three classes who learned about egg farming in Ontario from area egg farmers and the famous travelling egg farm, complete with white and brown hens and a grading machine.
