FPAA Joined By Congressman To Dedicate A Salad Bar To Children's Lunchroom

The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas (FPAA) is excited to announce the dedication of salad bar equipment to San Cayetano Elementary School in Rio Rico, Arizona,  as part of the Let’s Move Salad Bars 2 School (LMSB2S) program.  The FPAA will be on site on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 with school representatives, members of the FPAA, and the Honorable Raul Grijalva, Elected Member to the House of Representatives from this district, to dedicate the salad bar to the San Cayetano Elementary School.

USDA Approves Arctic Granny & Arctic Golden Apples

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) announced that it has deregulated two apple varieties genetically engineered to resist browning. The apples, developed by Okanagan Specialty Fruits, Inc. (OSF), will be marketed under the Arctic® Granny and Arctic® Golden labels when they are in commercial production. The Arctic® brand apples use biotechnology to silence—or “turn off”—the natural gene in apples that causes browning.
