Colorado Dairy Company Plans To Buy Columbia Site

A Boulder, Colo.-based company that bills itself as the leading producer of store-brand organic milk and butter for U.S. retailers is expected to invest $90 million in a manufacturing plant that will create 100 or more jobs in Columbia.

Aurora Organic Dairy, which also operates dairy, heifer and calf farms in Colorado and Texas, is the company Columbia city and economic officials have courted as Project Cadre, the plan Mayor Brian Treece unveiled Wednesday at a meeting of the Regional Economic Development Inc. board of directors.

Aurora Organic Dairy is expected to pay a little more than $2 million for the city-owned 101-acre Sutter industrial site off Waco Road, just north of the 3M and Kraft/Heinz plants. The plan will go before the Columbia City Council for a first reading Tuesday.
