Darigold Donates Dairy To Help Feed Those Displaced By White Swan Fire

SEATTLE — Darigold, Inc. and the more than 550 dairy farm families that collectively own the Seattle-based dairy cooperative have donated much needed dairy products to help feed those affected by the White Swan fire. The donation of more than 400 pounds of cheese, 390 pounds of butter and more than 1,000 bottles of Darigold milk was delivered to the Toppenish Armory on Monday, February 21.

“We hope that this donation will help feed the many displaced residents in White Swan. We have heard from many of our farmer-owners in the area who wanted to do something to help. Providing fresh products such as butter, cheese and milk to those affected and to the many volunteers, who are assisting, seemed to be the best way. It is important that the community come together in a time like this. Darigold commends the many volunteers who are helping in the relief efforts,” says President and CEO John Underwood.

The donation of dairy products is in addition to the already scheduled food and cash/check drive benefiting Northwest Harvest that is being sponsored by the Dairy Farmers of Washington and Les Schwab. The food drive is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4th, the second day of the WIAA State Boys and Girls 1A and 2A high school state basketball championships at the Yakima SunDome.

Each of the first 250 people who bring three cans of non-perishable food to the SunDome or contribute cash/check will receive a high quality Dairy Farmers of Washington reusable grocery tote bag (one bag per family), a copy of the Naturally Nutritious cookbook and a coupon for Darigold Refuel, a rich chocolate low fat protein milk. Chocolate milk has been proven to help replenish a person’s body following an extensive workout – like playing in the state championship or cheering on the home team.

For the past fifteen years the WIAA State Championships have been sponsored by the dairy farm families in Washington. Five years ago, that sponsorship was augmented by a partnership with Les Schwab Tires who have also supported the dairy farmers in their long-standing nutrition outreach program in schools.

Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Darigold, Inc. is the marketing and processing subsidiary of the Northwest Dairy Association, which is owned by approximately 550 dairy producers throughout the Northwest. Darigold, Inc. produces a full line of dairy-based products for retail, foodservice, commodity and specialty markets and is one of the largest U.S. dairy processors.
