Heat Wave Hurting Milk Production

With the heat index exceeding 105 Wednesday, farm animals, especially dairy cattle, are having a hard time dealing with this weather. It's starting to affect milk production.

As the temperature climbs outside, the barn on Gene and Sue Beimborn's family farm is actually a cool place to be — for the moment. That's thanks to large fans blowing air through the barn all day.

"The fans, we try and maintain about a five mile-per-hour wind speed. In the afternoon, when it's hot, it's hot air moving but it still keeps them cool," Gene Beimborn said.

The Beimborns are doing all they can to keep the cows calm, comfortable, and quiet, giving them as much water as possible and even adjusting their diets.
